农历七月初七便是七夕

　　The Double Seventh Festival, or Qixi, falls on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month.

　　古时也叫乞巧节

　　In ancient times, it was also called the Qiqiao (Ingenuity-Begging) Festival.

　　这一节日起源于汉代

　　The festival dates back to the Han Dynasty,

　　距今已有两千多年历史

　　with a history of more than 2,000 years.

　　牛郎织女隔银河相望 一年一度鹊桥相会的传说

　　The legend of the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl, who gaze at each other across the Milky Way and meet once a year on the Magpie Bridge,

　　为七夕蒙上一层浪漫色彩

　　has imbued the festival with a romantic aura.

　　但追溯本源

　　Yet, tracing back to its origins,

　　七夕更是专属于古代女性的祈福节日

　　Qixi was more like a festival for women to pray for blessings in ancient China.

　　旧时女子备好彩线与绣针

　　Back then, women would prepare colored threads and embroidery needles,

　　祭拜织造技艺超凡的织女

　　and pay homage to the Weaver Girl blessed with extraordinary weaving skills,

　　祈求习得灵巧手艺、拥有聪慧心性

　　praying to acquire deft craftsmanship and a wise mind.

　　并由此衍生出穿针比巧等诸多民俗

　　From this arose many folk customs such as the needlework contest.

　　七夕远不止一场东方的浪漫相会

　　Qixi is far more than just an Eastern romantic tryst;

　　更寄托着中国人对心灵手巧、生活美满的恒久向往

　　It embodies the Chinese people’s eternal longing for ingenuity and a happy, fulfilling life.
